Monday night reminded us how many people are quiet Monday night reminded us how many people are quietly navigating stress.

A room full of people came together to learn how herbs can support the nervous system — and how something as simple as tea can become a daily ritual of care.
What we talked about is something we see in clinic every day:
stress rarely shows up as just “stress.”

It shows up as:
• anxiety
• insomnia
• burnout
• digestive issues
• hormone imbalance
• feeling wired but exhausted

Herbal medicine can be a powerful place to start, but it’s only one piece of the bigger picture.

At Aya Naturopathic Medicine, we help patients understand the root causes behind what their body is experiencing and create personalized plans to restore balance — whether that involves herbal medicine, nutrition, hormone support, nervous system regulation, or metabolic health.

Thank you to everyone who came out and blended tea with us. It meant a lot to see such curiosity and care for health in our community.

And a special thank you to @boardwineandcheese for hosting us and providing such a beautiful, cozy space that made the evening feel so warm and welcoming.

If stress has been affecting your sleep, mood, or energy, know that there are tools that can help.

Last week Dr. Luciana talked about insulin resista Last week Dr. Luciana talked about insulin resistance — so let’s make it practical.

You don’t have to eliminate carbs to support blood sugar.

You just have to stop eating them alone.

When we eat “naked carbs” (like plain oatmeal, pasta, toast, crackers), glucose hits the bloodstream quickly. That leads to a bigger insulin spike… and over time, that pattern can contribute to insulin resistance.
Instead of restriction, think structure.

Here’s the formula I use:
• Add protein
• Add fiber
• Add healthy fat
• Add polyphenols (like cinnamon!)

Same oatmeal.
Very different metabolic response.

This is how we work with physiology instead of fighting it.

Save this for the next time you’re building breakfast 🍓
And if you’re working on insulin resistance, comment “BOWL” and we’ll send you more ideas.
So many people are told everything is “normal” whi So many people are told everything is “normal” while their symptoms are anything but.

Insulin resistance can quietly develop long before blood sugar becomes abnormal — and it plays a major role in:
• Weight gain
• Stubborn belly fat
• PCOS
• Perimenopause & menopause changes
• Cravings & energy crashes

Testing insulin early can change the entire conversation.
If your body feels like it’s working against you, it may be time to look deeper.

I wasn’t expecting high fructose corn syrup to be I wasn’t expecting high fructose corn syrup to be the second ingredient in breadcrumbs.

But there it was.
And 59 total ingredients.

This isn’t about judging brands.
And it’s definitely not about food fear.

It’s about awareness.

Ultra-processed ingredients don’t only show up in obvious places like soda or cookies. Sometimes they sneak into everyday staples — sauces, dressings, breads… even breadcrumbs.

The good news?

You often don’t have to change what you’re eating.
You can just change the version.

When I read labels, I keep it simple:

• Look at the first 3 ingredients (that’s what the food mostly is)
• Count the total ingredients
• Scan for added sugars + industrial seed oils

Those small shifts lower cumulative exposure over time — without overhauling your diet.

Next time you’re at the store, compare two brands of the same product. Just flip the package over.
You might be surprised.

Comment “PANTRY” if you want more hidden ingredient breakdowns.
